The Sea Ranch Vegetation Management

In response to the hazards of windthrow in old-growth Grand Fir forests at the urban/wildland interface, The Sea Ranch Association hired JNRA and Joe R. McBride to develop vegetation-management guidelines and forest-restoration plans for two neighborhoods devastated by wind-toppled trees. Intended to reestablish wind-hardy native forests in a wildland context – with more selective native plants near the houses – the guidelines will restore the forests in the affected common areas and private lots alike with specific forest managements recommendations for fire and wind-throw safety, privacy, habitat, and urban compatibility. Restoration plans have been implemented in selected common areas with complementary implementation by private property owners in hazard zones.
