Mellard O'Neil Residence

This storyteller’s garden on a steep, hazardous, and formerly inaccessible hillside is a private sanctuary with open garden terraces, restored native woodlands, a firebreak at the urban/wildland interface, and stabilized erodable fill slopes. Garden vignettes created from place-memories within the family’s labyrinthine story, are tucked into hidden niches between concrete buttresses under the decks. Artist Lea Goode-Harris collaborated on the labyrinth paving design and the vignette sculptures.
