Library Gardens

This mixed-use residential infill project next to Berkeley Central Library replaced a parking garage in Downtown Berkeley with: 176 podium-level apartments surrounding two landscaped courtyards; ground floor retail uses; a sub-surface public parking garage; private ground-level gardens; and an outdoor garden plaza along the Kittridge Street frontage.  The plaza and garden create a 60’ wide green terminus to Harold Way, a welcome landscape relief downtown. A large water wall sculpture, collaboratively designed with artists Susan Pascal-Beran, Jeff Reed, and Jennifer Madden, separates the private gardens and plaza and forms the backdrop to the public space.
